NO means NO, Avangrid has got to go.

Kicking off the PNM, Avangrid & Chevron sponsored energy summit today - the head of JP Morgan Chase communications, PNM CEO Pat Vincent-Collawn, Avangrid CEO Pedro Azagra Blasquez and our very own Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham.

Remember when the PRC voted to deny the proposed merger between PNM and Avangrid because it was not in the public interest? We do, because it happened only a few months ago, but PNM, Avangrid and our Governor apparently have very short memories. At the 2022 Energy Summit that kicked off this morning, our Governor is standing shoulder to shoulder with PNM and Avangrid leadership acting as though the PRC's decision never took place. Sponsors include Chevron, the American Petroleum Institute, Conoco Phillips and numerous other fossil fuel apologists (full list available on summit website here).

This morning at the conference: PNM CEO Vincent Collawn and Avangrid CEO Pedro Azagra Blasquez talked about the marriage between PNM and Avangrid and that they were having trouble tying the knot THANKS TO NEW ENERGY ECONOMY AND THE PRC that required a dissolution because it was NOT in the public interest. The Governor was there to promise unification with plans that she will appoint PRC Commissioners to undo its work to protect New Mexicans, and instead install the will of the capitalist class. JP Morgan Chase and other bankers welcomed what Collawn and Azagra Blasquez were touting: the transition will be good for capital. Which is exactly WHY the PRC rejected the Iberdrola/Avangrid and PNM marriage - the merger is required to be in the public interest, not for the sole benefit of the corporate shareholders. The Governor's speech was interrupted by YUCCA (Youth United for Climate Crisis Action) who staged an action to call out the corruption and undemocratic nature of the convening (Summit tickets cost $300/person). Activists unfurled banners and chanted that "NO MEANS NO, AVANGRID HAS GOT TO GO" and "NO GREENWASHING, NO FALSE SOLUTIONS, CLIMATE ACTION NOW!"

On Friday, Earth Day, when they are closing their corporate greenwashing extravaganza with an upscale wine and dine private reception to be attended by NM legislators and elected officials. New Energy Economy is joining YUCCA (Youth United for Climate Crisis Action) and other grassroots orgs for our own very public reception - a march and protest outside their fossil fuel party.
