It's time to take this fight to the States. That's where we live.

This year, New Energy Economy has taken on some of the biggest challenges facing our state—and won. Against powerful interests and overwhelming odds, we’ve used truth, legal strategy, public mobilization, and community power to shift the dynamics in decision-making spaces. And with your support, we’ll keep winning.

This is a moment of profound urgency. The emissions from Permian oil and gas alone could consume 10% of the remaining global carbon budget, threatening not just our home but the future of life on Earth. The federal safeguards that once offered some protection will be gone. Any chance for progress—or even basic defense—will depend on us: the people of New Mexico, standing together, refusing to give up.

We’ve been preparing for this moment. Over the years, we’ve built the skills, relationships, and resolve needed to act effectively at the state level to uphold the law and demand protection from state regulators. We’ve shown that by revealing the truth, mobilizing public outcry, and using every legal and policy tool at our disposal, we can make a difference. And now, we will need all of that strength—and more—to meet the unprecedented threats ahead.

Our achievements show what’s possible. Together we have:

  • Secured an 8% ratepayer credit on PNM bills for the closure of the San Juan Generating Station.

  • Saved customers $84 million by winning a finding of imprudence against PNM’s investment in the Four Corners Coal Plant.

  • Stopped the $8 billion buyout of PNM by Iberdrola/Avangrid, a global energy giant.

  • Blocked NM Gas Company’s proposed liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant in Rio Rancho.

We’ve also expanded our focus to take on the hazardous waste crisis from fracking in the Permian Basin:

  • Defeated the Governor’s Strategic Water Supply proposal to repurpose toxic oil and gas waste, thus far!

  • Formed Defend NM Water, a coalition of 40+ organizations mobilizing against oil and gas water contamination.

  • Opposed harmful rules at the Water Quality Control Commission and Oil Conservation Commission that would authorize toxic waste projects and the use of PFAS chemicals.

Looking ahead to 2025, we are ready to meet the challenges head-on.New Mexico is where this fight will be won or lost. With federal protections dismantled, we must turn to our state leaders, legislators, and regulators. We must demand they stand up to industry greed and fight for the public good.

Together, we will:

  • Oppose continued efforts to authorize fracking waste reuse and protect non-rechargeable brackish water reservoirs.

  • Hold oil and gas polluters accountable for their oceans of hazardous waste and abandoned wells.

  • Demand stronger legislative protections and resources necessary to defend communities from harm.

  • Continue holding monopoly utilities accountable to the renewable energy and electrification goals that science demands.

We are stronger than we’ve ever been. Our relationships, expertise, and determination have grown over the years, but so too have the challenges. This work demands boldness, resilience, and a willingness to fight for every tenth of a degree, every acre of land, and every drop of water. We will not give up.

We need your support to continue this fight.Today, we’re asking for your help to reach our $100,000 goal by the end of the year. These funds will allow us to:

  • Employ the expert witnesses who strengthen our legal arguments.

  • Organize public demand for accountability and action.

  • Continue empowering communities to defend themselves and their futures.

This is a moment of reckoning. But it’s also a moment of hope. We are part of something bigger than ourselves—a movement for justice, equity, and sustainability. Together, we can rise to meet this unprecedented challenge and fight for a future, and for every last living being that can be saved.

Please stand with us. Donate today to protect the people, the places and the earth we love.
