Vision Shift! Art in the Age of Climate Change

Vision Shift! is an upcoming exhibition showcasing artists' projects about global warming and what life could be in a post fossil fuel age. The exhibition opens October 8, 2009 at five venues in Santa Fe and runs through November 30, 2009. Press release.

Artists see truth in a different light and can express ideas in ways that make others realize what is really happening. The primary purpose of the exhibition is to inspire artists to communicate their own creativity in expressions for the miraculousness of human ingenuity and innovation, and against pollution and environmental destruction, which we are a part of. We hope to inspire and raise consciousness of those who view the art. It is our hope that Vision Shift! will effect public policy, transform our carbon footprint and create meaningful social change. The art can be hopeful images of what will be, in the real or abstract, or can also include graphic images of earth devastation, human displacement, the effects of hubris as well as depictions of suffering and tragedy.

Vision Shift! is a collaboration of the Center for Contemporary Arts, the Santa Fe Art Institute, the Institute of American Indian Arts, Earth Care International (Youth Leadership Program), Fine Arts for Children and Teens, New Energy Economy, Santa Fe Place, Warehouse 21, and many individual community members. Call For Entries

There is no fee for submission for these exhibitions. Only artwork that reflects the concepts articulated in the purpose statement are welcome. Artwork is expected to be exhibition ready. Artwork can be for sale. Artists will receive 50% of the sale price of their work. Artists will provide price if for sale. Pieces sold from the exhibition will remain in the exhibition and will not be available to their purchasers until after the exhibition closes. There is no limit on art submissions.

All artists are to provide artist information in print for inclusion in the exhibition, including artist’s name, title of art piece, dimensions, medium and price.

Each site will have its own restrictions from open call to juried exhibitions and have size limitations. Artwork should be delivered to the appropriate site for exhibition. These shows will open on the following dates and have restrictions:

• Art-in-Transit (displayed inside Santa Fe buses) open call for artists; Beginning: October 1, 2009; Restrictions: artwork must be 2D horizontal 1’ X 2.5 ft. and contain no curse words, misogynistic or racist language.

• Center for Contemporary Arts, 1050 Old Pecos Trail, Santa Fe; invited show. Vision Shift! Opening: October 8, 2009.

• Santa Fe Art Institute, St. Michaels Drive, 1600 Saint Michaels Dr., Santa Fe, (505) 424-5050; open call for artists; Vision Shift! Opening: October 9, 2009; Restrictions: 2’ X 2’ sq. ft. of wall or floor space. Artists install artwork on 10/5 and 10/6 between 10am-4pm.

• Santa Fe Place (the “Mall”), 4250 Cerrillos Road, Santa Fe; open call for artists; Vision Shift! Opening: October 11, 2009; Restrictions: artwork that can be placed on easels. Present artwork on October 5, 2009, food court @ 10am.
  

• Warehouse 21, 1614 Paseo de Peralta, Santa Fe; open call for artists; Vision Shift! Opening: October 10, 2009; Restrictions: artwork can be no larger than 3’ X 4’ and will be hung on walls. Present artwork on October 5, 2009.

El Arte En La Edad De Cambios Climáticos

Concepto: Los artistas ven la verdad bajo una luz diferente y pueden expresar ideas en formas de hacen que otros se den cuenta lo que realmente sucede. El propósito principal de la exposición es inspirar a artistas a comunicar su propia creatividad en expresiones a través del milagro del ingenio e innovación humana y  en contra la polución de la destrucción del medio ambiente, en el cual todos somos parte. Esperamos inspirar y crear conciencia en aquellos que ven el arte. Nuestra esperanza es que Vision Shift! tenga un efecto positivo en las políticas  públicas, transforme nuestras huellas de carbón y crea un cambio social significativo. El arte puede transmitir imagines de esperanza de lo que puede ser, en la realidad o en abstracto, o también puede incluir imagines gráficas de la devastación de la tierra, desplazamiento de seres humanos,  los efectos del orgullo desmedido como también la vívida descripción del sufrimiento y la tragedia.

Condiciones: Para presentarse a estas exposiciones no hay cargo de ninguna clase. Solamente serán aceptadas las obras de arte que reflejen los conceptos enunciados en el folleto informativo. Las obras  de artes deben estar listas para presentarlas en la exposición. Las obras arte pueden considerarse en venta. Los artistas recibirán el 50% del precio de venta de la obra de arte. Los artistas deben proporcionar el precio de venta de la obra si está en venta. Las obras vendidas durante la exhibición permanecerán en la exposición y sus compradores no podrán obtenerlas hasta que la exposición haya cerrado. No hay límite para presentar sus obras

Los artistas deben proporcionar la información impresa del artista para incluirla en la exposición, incluyendo el nombre del artista, nombre de la obra de arte, dimensiones, medio y precio.

Cada lugar tendrá  sus propias restricciones desde la invitación abierta hasta  la exposición de jurados y habrá limitaciones de tamaño. Las obras se deben entregar en los lugares apropiados para la exposición. Estas exposiciones  tendrán su apertura en las siguientes fechas y hay restricciones:

• Art- in-Transit, (expuesta dentro de los buses de Santa Fe): invitación abierta para artistas: Primero de octubre de 2009. Restricciones: las obras deben ser 2D horizontales 11’x28’ y no contener palabras ofensivas ni lenguaje racista o misógino.
• Center for Contemporary Arts,  1050 Old Pecos Trail, Santa Fe. Exposición invitada. Apertura Vision Shift!: 8 de octubre de 2009.
• Santa Fe Art Institute, St. Michaels Drive, 1600 St. Michael’s Drive, Santa Fe, (505)424-5050, invitación abierta para artistas. Apertura Vision Shift! 9 de octubre de 2009. Restricciones: 2’x2’ pies cuadrados de espacio en la pared o piso. Los artistas deben instalar sus obras el 5 y 6 de octubre de 10:00AM a 4:00 PM.
• Santa Fe Place (El Mall),4250 Cerrillos Road, Santa Fe. Invitación abierta para artistas: Apertura Vision Shift! 11 de octubre de 2009. Restricciones: obras de arte que puedan mostrase en atriles. Presentar las obras  el 5 de octubre de 2009 en el lugar donde están los restaurantes (food court) a las 10 de la mañana.

• Warehouse 21, 1614 Paseo de Peralta, Santa Fe.  Invitación abierta para artistas: Apertura Vision Shift!10 de octubre de 2009. Restricciones: obras no más grandes que 3’x4’ y puedan colgarse de la pared. Presentar las obras el 5 de octubre de 2009.
